Bill Lockwood: Almost a Dictatorship 4 (1)

by Bill Lockwood

American Journal Daily is putting out a piece today (2/9/22), written by Daniel Ottomire, entitled “Red Wave Just Crashed on President Biden—38 Republicans Order Joe to Take a Cognitive Test Right Away.” Ottomire reports that Republicans are concerned—and for good reason—that Joe Biden’s “wits have left him.”

Nearly 40 Republicans have written a letter, spearheaded by Rep. Ronnie Jackson of Texas, former White House doctor to President Trump, asking the 79-year-old to take a cognitive test. So far, Democrats have refused to cede that Biden is in a muddled state.

Ottomire writes, “Imagine that. Democrats are forcing a sick man to stay in office, just so they won’t admit they were wrong. Such a thing could be considered elder abuse and worse. But if they do subject him to a test and he fails, the party would suffer even more in the midterms.”

What Of This?

I have no doubt that Biden is mentally handicapped at this point. But I don’t see the Democrats budging on this. Why?

First, Why would they? Even if Biden is submitted to a test, does anyone half-way familiar with the way Democrats “doctor” records, and have for years, that the American people will get an accurate accounting? Further, Joe Biden was in cognitive decline as a candidate for president, only campaigning out of his basement – yet the American people apparently “voted” him into office. With the integrity of the Biden election at issue here—and continues to be—they are not worried about “elections.”

Second, Biden and the Democrats are crushing the country into socialism more quickly than we can pull out a test and administer it to Joe Biden. With literally millions pouring through our southern border on a yearly basis, without so much as going through a turnstile, the pro-Democratic Welfare State of uninformed voters grows exponentially. The Republican response? “Demand” Biden take a cognitive test. Mmm.

As a matter of fact, the Border Patrol, as Angie Wong of The Post reports this week, after having spent several days on the border: The Border Patrol “ “has changed from an enforcement agency to a concierge service.”

Worse still she writes that “The southern border of the United States has become a suggestion, a line that vanishes a little more each day.” Even worse than that is the fact that not only is Joe Biden flagrantly violating U.S. Law each and every day, but is now actively working with the cartels and coyotes, coordinating on “when and where drop-offs will happen.”

This does not merely mean that we have lost control of our own country’s borders—but we have lost control of the government itself which is in an active war AGAINST the American people. Yet, Biden still sits in Washington, D.C., flinging out his nasty charges against the common working class.

Dan Stein, the president of Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR), adds that, according to the official government documents that came out this week recounting the low numbers of illegals deported in 2021, that “for all intents and purposes, the Biden Administration has implemented the radical left’s goal of abolishing ICE.”

As FAIR puts it, Without common sense limitations on immigration and the resulting population growth, virtually every social cause is lost.

Department of Homeland Security Bulletin Feb. 7

Perhaps most frightening is the following, posted on February 7, on the DHS website:
“DHS remains committed to proactively sharing timely information and intelligence about the evolving threat environment with the American public,” said Secretary Alejandro N. Mayorkas. “We also remain committed to working with our partners across every level of government and in the private sector to prevent all forms of terrorism and targeted violence, and to support law enforcement efforts to keep our communities safe. This NTAS Bulletin outlines the key factors that have increased the volatility, unpredictability, and complexity of the current threat environment, and highlights resources for individuals and communities to stay safe.”
The United States remains in a heightened threat environment fueled by several factors, including an online environment filled with false or misleading narratives and conspiracy theories, and other forms of mis- dis- and mal-information (MDM) introduced and/or amplified by foreign and domestic threat actors. These threat actors seek to exacerbate societal friction to sow discord and undermine public trust in government institutions to encourage unrest, which could potentially inspire acts of violence. Mass casualty attacks and other acts of targeted violence conducted by lone offenders and small groups acting in furtherance of ideological beliefs and/or personal grievances pose an ongoing threat to the nation.

There you have it. Targeted as “terroristic threats” are those disseminating “misinformation” and “disinformation.” Any party that “undermines public trust in government institutions” is a terrorist. “Sowing discord” –like the truckers in Canada—is an punishable offense.

And the strongest Republican response to this open WAR AGAINST AMERICA is Milquetoast Mitch McConnell’s “wait until the next election” rhetoric or 38 Republicans “demanding” Joe to take a cognitive test. I say, the Dems are going to have the last laugh if something else is not done, and quickly.

Alex Newman: DHS Paints Critics of COVID Mandates & Vote Fraud as Terrorists 5 (1)

by Alex Newman

Americans opposed to COVID lockdowns and other government edicts supposedly related to the virus, as well as the “extremists” who believe the 2020 election was rigged, are at the top of the list of potential terror threats to the United States, according to a new advisory issued by the Biden administration’s Department of Homeland Security. “Conspiracy theorists” and purveyors of what the feds consider “disinformation” are now firmly in the crosshairs.

Through a bulletin issued by the National Terrorism Advisory System late last week, the increasingly discredited department, which also oversees the out-of-control Southern border, painted everyday Americans as the most significant terrorist threat to America. Establishment media outlets happily regurgitated the talking points.

Summary of Terrorism Threat to the U.S. Homeland

The Secretary of Homeland Security has issued a new National Terrorism Advisory System (NTAS) Bulletin regarding the current heightened threat environment across the United States.  The Homeland continues to face a diverse and challenging threat environment leading up to and following the 20th Anniversary of the September 11, 2001 attacks as well religious holidays we assess could serve as a catalyst for acts of targeted violence. These threats include those posed by domestic terrorists, individuals and groups engaged in grievance-based violence, and those inspired or motivated by foreign terrorists and other malign foreign influences. These actors are increasingly exploiting online forums to influence and spread violent extremist narratives and promote violent activity. Such threats are also exacerbated by impacts of the ongoing global pandemic, including grievances over public health safety measures and perceived government restrictions.

Duration

Issued:  August 13, 2021 02:00 pm
Expires:  November 11, 2021 02:00 pm

Additional Details

  • Through the remainder of 2021, racially- or ethnically-motivated violent extremists (RMVEs) and anti-government/anti-authority violent extremists will remain a national threat priority for the United States. These extremists may seek to exploit the emergence of COVID-19 variants by viewing the potential re-establishment of public health restrictions across the United States as a rationale to conduct attacks.  Pandemic-related stressors have contributed to increased societal strains and tensions, driving several plots by domestic violent extremists, and they may contribute to more violence this year.
  • Additionally, leading up to the anniversary of the 9/11 attacks, Al-Qa’ida in the Arabian Peninsula recently released its first English-language copy of Inspire magazine in over four years, which demonstrates that foreign terrorist organizations continue efforts to inspire U.S.-based individuals susceptible to violent extremist influences.
  • Historically, mass-casualty domestic violent extremist attacks linked to RMVEs have targeted houses of worship and crowded commercial facilities or gatherings. Some RMVEs advocate via online platforms for a race war and have stated that civil disorder provides opportunities to engage in violence in furtherance of ideological objectives. The reopening of institutions, including schools, as well as several dates of religious significance over the next few months, could also provide increased targets of opportunity for violence though there are currently no credible or imminent threats identified to these locations.
  • Foreign and domestic threat actors, to include foreign intelligence services, international terrorist groups and domestic violent extremists, continue to introduce, amplify, and disseminate narratives online that promote violence, and have called for violence against elected officials, political representatives, government facilities, law enforcement, religious communities or commercial facilities, and perceived ideologically-opposed individuals. There are also continued, non-specific calls for violence on multiple online platforms associated with DVE ideologies or conspiracy theories on perceived election fraud and alleged reinstatement, and responses to anticipated restrictions relating to the increasing COVID cases.
  • Ideologically motivated violent extremists fueled by personal grievances and extremist ideological beliefs continue to derive inspiration and obtain operational guidance through the consumption of information shared in certain online communities. This includes information regarding the use of improvised explosive devices and small arms.
  • Violent extremists may use particular messaging platforms or techniques to obscure operational indicators that provide specific warning of a pending act of violence.
  • Law enforcement have expressed concerns that the broader sharing of false narratives and conspiracy theories will gain traction in mainstream environments, resulting in individuals or small groups embracing violent tactics to achieve their desired objectives. With a diverse array of threats, DHS is concerned that increased outbreaks of violence in some locations, as well as targeted attacks against law enforcement, may strain local resources.
  • Nation-state adversaries have increased efforts to sow discord. For example, Russian, Chinese and Iranian government-linked media outlets have repeatedly amplified conspiracy theories concerning the origins of COVID-19 and effectiveness of vaccines; in some cases, amplifying calls for violence targeting persons of Asian descent.

How We Are Responding

  • DHS will continue to identify and evaluate calls for violence, including online activity associated with the spread of disinformation, conspiracy theories, and false narratives, by known or suspected threat actors and provide updated information, as necessary.
  • DHS continues to encourage the public to maintain awareness of the evolving threat environment and report suspicious activity.
  • DHS is coordinating with state and local law enforcement and public safety partners to maintain situational awareness of potential violence in their jurisdictions and maintain open lines of communication with federal partners.
  • DHS is also advancing authoritative sources of information to debunk and, when possible, preempt false narratives and intentional disinformation, and providing educational materials to promote resilience to the risks associated with interacting with and spreading disinformation, conspiracy theories and false narratives.
  • More broadly, DHS remains committed to identifying and preventing terrorism and targeted violence while protecting the privacy, civil rights, and civil liberties of all persons.

How You Can Help

Be Prepared and Stay Informed

  • Be prepared for emergency situations and remain aware of circumstances that may place you at risk.
  • Maintain digital media literacy to recognize and build resilience to false and harmful narratives.
  • Make note of your surroundings and the nearest security personnel.
  • Government agencies will provide details about emerging threats as information is identified. The public is encouraged to listen to local authorities and public safety officials.

If You See Something, Say Something®. Report suspicious activity to local law enforcement or call 911.

“Extremists may seek to exploit the emergence of COVID-19 variants by viewing the potential re-establishment of public health restrictions across the US as a rationale to conduct attacks,” Homeland Security bureaucrats claimed in the bulletin, acknowledging that there is no specific threat or credible information that it knows about suggesting that anyone is actually planning anything.

Also under scrutiny are those Americans suspicious about the 2020 election — a number that polls suggest includes a majority of Americans and an overwhelming supermajority of Republicans. The mostly peaceful protest on January 6 at the U.S. Capitol, which Democrats and their media allies continue falsely referring to as an “insurrection” despite nobody having been charged with anything resembling insurrection, is key to the narrative. There was no mention about growing suspicions of FBI involvement in the January 6 incident.

“These actors are increasingly exploiting online forums to influence and spread violent extremist narratives and promote violent activity,” Biden’s “Homeland Security” bureaucrats claimed without giving any examples of anyone promoting violent activity. “Such threats are also exacerbated by impacts of the ongoing global pandemic, including grievances over public health safety measures and perceived government restrictions.”

Speaking to NBC News, which helped amplify the government’s propaganda against Americans, federal spokesmen echoed those claims. “DHS has seen an increasing but modest level of individuals calling for violence in response to the unsubstantiated claims of fraud related to the 2020 election fraud and the alleged ‘reinstatement’ of former President Trump,” the DHS spokesman was was quoted as saying by NBC News, adding that the concerns are becoming more mainstream.

Tackling so-called “thought crimes” is becoming a central element of the administration’s supposed effort to prevent terror. “DHS is focused on the nexus between violence and extremist ideologies,” a spokesman for the agency was quoted as saying, with “extremist ideologies” being essentially any ideologies the Biden administration disagrees with including ideas such as the U.S. Constitution and resistance to COVID tyranny.

The warnings about the alleged threat of conspiracy theorists, civil libertarians and election-integrity advocates came shortly after the FBI came under fire for urging Americans to spy on and report their own family members for “extremist” views. Critics blasted the cryptic call as a throwback to the barbarous Stasi in Communist-ruled East Germany, which encouraged citizens to constantly surveil and report each other to the murderous regime.

While again acknowledging that they have no specific information about any specific alleged threat, Homeland Security claimed that the U.S. government was not “prepared” for the January 6 incident because it did not spy on Americans closely enough. And so, DHS “leaders” cited by NBC vowed to more closely monitor social media and especially “extremist rhetoric.” DHS is also reportedly working with local law-enforcement agencies on the issue.

“We are currently in a heightened terrorism-related threat environment, and DHS is aware of previous instances of violence associated with the dissemination of disinformation, false narratives and conspiracy theories about the 2020 election,” the DHS spokesman said, dismissing widespread and well-founded public concerns over election integrity as “disinformation” and “conspiracy theories.”

In general, though, the government claims to believe that threats from everyday Americans are lurking everywhere, except among the left-wing extremists burning down U.S. cities and attacking police. “Pandemic-related stressors have contributed to increased societal strains and tensions, driving several plots by domestic violent extremists, and they may contribute to more violence this year,” the DHS claimed.

Unspecified “religious holidays” may also trigger terror attacks, the Biden administration said. The United States “continues to face a diverse and challenging threat environment leading up to and following the 20th Anniversary of the September 11, 2001 attacks as well religious holidays we assess could serve as a catalyst for acts of targeted violence,” the DHS bulletin argued.

After repeatedly emphasizing that conservative and liberty-minded Americans are the main supposed terror threat to America, the administration reluctantly acknowledged supposed foreign threats, too. “These threats include those posed by domestic terrorists, individuals and groups engaged in grievance-based violence, and those inspired or motivated by foreign terrorists and other malign foreign influences,” the bulletin claimed.

There were no warnings issued about domestic terror groups such as Antifa or Black Lives Matter. The two communist organizations, which have numerous links to hostile foreign regimes and organizations, destroyed billions in property and were responsible for numerous deaths last year in violent riots that swept across major cities nationwide. Even RINOs (Republicans In Name Only) in Congress such as Senator Chuck Grassley of Iowa said it was a “grave mistake” for the administration to ignore those threats.

Meanwhile, despite the supposed concerns about terror and national security, the Southern border with Mexico overseen by the same federal agency remains wide open. Because of that, actual terrorists with dangerous intent have been waltzing across the border into the “Homeland” practically uninterrupted on a regular basis.

Consider the recent arrest of two Yemeni men on the government’s no-fly and FBI terrorist watch lists who were arrested while illegally crossing the border from Mexico in January and March. According to U.S. Border Patrol officials, over a thousand illegal aliens each day walk across the border and are not even pursued because agents are so busy taking care of the growing tsunami of children showing up at the border.

Ironically, even as the administration works to stoke public fears about alleged domestic terror plots, it is vowing to re-settle tens of thousands of Afghans in the United States after the disastrous Biden withdrawal. Security and terror experts say that leaves the door wide open for would-be terrorist infiltrators to be plopped into local communities nationwide at taxpayer expense.

Of course, legitimate counter-terrorism experts focused on actual terror threats to the United States were purged from federal service during the Obama administration — especially those who knew that jihadists and violent communists such as Antifa posed the most significant domestic terror threat to America’s national security.

The expertise and training programs developed by actual experts were replaced with discredited “countering violent extremism” (CVE) nonsense focusing on the largely imaginary threat of “white supremacists.” Critics say that is how the FBI and other agencies missed obvious warning signs and clues about the Boston Marathon attack, the Orlando nightclub massacre, the San Bernadino slaughter, and other jihadist terror attacks.

Now, as The New American has been warning for decades, the end goal is coming into view more clearly: Turning the massive federal intelligence and law-enforcement apparatus against mainstream Americans concerned about the lawlessness coming out of the federal government. If the scheming is not checked by Congress and state governments, the administration fully intends to further weaponize the power of the federal government against its own citizens.

In a widely criticized document entitled National Strategy for Countering Domestic Terrorism, the administration made clear that it is not just violence that is at issue — but ideas and thoughts that supposedly might possibly lead a person to commit a violent act. And it will not just be the federal government involved.

“Preventing domestic terrorism and reducing the factors that fuel it demand a multifaceted response across the Federal Government and beyond,” Biden says in an introduction to the National Strategy document. “That includes working with our critical partners in state, local, tribal, and territorial governments and in civil society, the private sector, academia, and local communities, as well as with our allies and foreign partners.”

But of course, only some ideas that might lead to violence are actually in the crosshairs. For example, consider that the admitted terrorist Floyd Corkins told the FBI that he was inspired to commit terrorism and mass-murder against conservatives and Christians by the far-left hate group known as the Southern Poverty Law Center. And yet, instead of targeting the radical ideology of the SPLC, the feds work with the discredited organization to target mainstream Americans.

Ironically, perhaps, the mass-murdering dictatorship ruling mainland China sounded a lot like the Biden administration in its demonization of those who reject total government power under the guise of keeping people safe from COVID.

For instance, through its mouthpiece Global Times, the Chinese Communist Party used an article about the terror alert to blast “loopholes” in the Constitution’s “federal system” that have “restricted” the power of the federal government when “encountering a crisis.” Some states, the regime said, are “reluctant to do the right thing to combat the epidemic.” Part of the problem is that “Americans advocate individualism,” the CCP said, slamming opposition to mask mandates, vaccine mandates, and travel restrictions.

With each day that passes, it is becoming more and more clear that the U.S. government — using rhetoric and talking points almost identical to those of the murderous Chinese Communist Party — is being weaponized against Americans and freedom. The outlandish new “terror” warning painting tens of millions of mainstream Americans with legitimate concerns about individual liberty and election fraud as terrorists should be a wake-up call to all.

Bill Lockwood: Marxist Military Fires Lohmeier 4 (1)

by Bill Lockwood

Lt. Col. Matthew Lohmeier, a former instructor and fighter pilot in the US Air Force, and until this week a commanding officer of the 11th Space Warning Squadron of the US Space Force, has just been relieved of duty for privately publishing a book that “warned of the spread of Marxism and critical race theory in the military.” Lt. Gen. Stephen Whiting, the Space Operations commander, removed Lohmeier from his position at Colorado’s Buckley AFB due to what he called “loss of trust and ability to lead.”

Lohmeier has made public comments in a podcast about Marxist ideology in the military, namely the Critical Race Theory. This runs afoul of the Marxist-leaning administration in Washington, D.C. and Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin took particular offense at the remarks.

Jen Psaki, the Press Secretary for President Biden, officially, on behalf of the administration, defended the Marxist view of history and the Critical Race Theory when she publicly defended the racist “1619 Project.”

As Christopher Rufo, founder and director of Battlefront, put it, “Critical race theory is fast becoming America’s new institutional orthodoxy.” Apparently, it is not just “becoming” the orthodox position, it is the orthodox position.

Critical Race Theory is a re-configuring of Marxism. Karl Marx, building his system upon atheistic assumptions, constructed the political program on the “theory of class conflict” in order to create upheavals in society. These classes were the capitalists and the workers. Ensuing conflicts between them ignited the powder kegs that would shatter the status quo.

CRT is this same volatile brew of “class conflict”, but it has simply substituted race for class. This became the predominant form of Marxism beginning in the 1960’s which predominated academia.

Therefore, we hear of “white supremacy,” “equity,” “social justice,” “diversity and inclusion,” and “culturally responsive teaching.” This is all nothing less than re-formulated Marxism, or neo-Marxism.

For example, in the name of “equity,” UCLA Law professor and critical race theorist Cheryl Harris has proposed suspending private property rights, seizing land and wealth and redistributing them along racial lines. The identical model is already being practiced in South Africa where government officials already are exterminating white Afrikaners and confiscating their farms.

That this hard-core Marxism is now the dominant working theory in the FBI, Department of Homeland Security, Treasury Department, and even the MILITARY, is cause of major concern, to say the least.

Lohmeier

Lt. Col. Matthew Lohmeier’s book is entitled Irresistible Revolution: Marxism’s Goal of Conquest & the Unmaking of the American Military. During a podcast on May 7 Lohmeier discussed his new publication. He also reflected on what is occurring in the Armed Forces.

What you see happening in the US Military at the moment is that if you’re a conservative, then you’re lumped into a group of people who are labeled extremists, if you’re will to voice your views. And if you’re aligned on the left, then its ok to be an activist online because no one’s going to hold you accountable.

“Since taking command as a commander about 10 months ago, I saw what I consider fundamentally incompatible narratives of what America was, is and should be,” Lohmeier said. “That wasn’t just prolific in social media, or throughout the country during this past year, but is spreading throughout the United States military. And I recognized those narratives as being Marxist in nature.”

The Critical Race Theory creates an “oppressor vs. oppressive” narrative and makes “race the lens through which the world is viewed.” Further, he pointed out that this “weaponizes race dialogue to cause division and contentions hoping the people would get up one another’s necks—not unified, but divided.”

Regarding Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin himself as well as the Biden Administration, Lohmeier added, “I don’t demonize the man, but I want to make it clear to both him and every service member this agenda—it will divide us. It will not unify us.” Referring to Austin, he lamented that the Defense Secretary is promoting “diversity, inclusion, and equity” which is rooted in the Critical Race Theory, “which is rooted in Marxism.”

This is too straight of a dose of medicine for our politically-correct High Command in the military, and the ruling elite in Washington, D.C. Unalloyed truth stings too much and Lohmeier was relieved of duty.

Reflections

First, America is in serious trouble. When the military, once a conservative bastion, becomes a practitioner of Marxist theory, trouble will follow. The division of which Lohmeier speaks is increasingly manifested in all rungs of society. This Marxist conflict is no accident. It began in earnest during the presidency of Barack Obama, a Marxist at heart, as the country began to explode along racial lines. He also managed to excise the military of numerous conservative high-ranking officers. The purge continues under Biden.

We should not even begin to ask what would occur if America enters another foreign war, undirected by the United Nations. Democrats are too busy tearing apart the fabric of our nation with Marxism to be interested in equipping ourselves for real combat.

Will this Marxist-military be used eventually to strip Americans themselves of rights? Instead of pooh-poohing this question, perhaps look at what is currently occurring in Washington, D.C. A populace of citizens still locked out and troops still deployed.

Second, contrary to the political puppet Lt. Gen. Whiting, who relieved Lohmeier of command, it is Lohmeier himself who is the real leader here. Whiting charged that the Lt. Col. had lost the “ability to lead.”

What is real leadership?

Leadership absent courage is a farce. … not arrogance or bravado, but real courage. It takes courage to break from the norm, challenge the status quo … Courage is having the strength of conviction to do the right thing when it would just be easier to do things right.

Real leaders are not men such as Lt. Gen. Russell Honore, touted as the tobacco-spitting, cursing, Ragin’ Cajin tough guy by the MSM. All Honore does is go around spouting Marxist slogans and verbally attacking conservatives. That is easy in our Marxist climate. It is easy to bob downstream with the rest of the clueless people while belching out ugly epithets against Constitutionalists.

Real leaders are not men such as Lt. Gen Whiting, who is the blind politically-correct devotee, who is either apparently afraid of losing his own job at the Biden Administration, or has himself become a willing client of the Marxist-oriented culture that surrounds Washington, D.C. It is to be noted that Lohmeier’s criticisms and concerns have not been answered.

Real leadership goes upstream—against the current—and is unafraid to speak out against the real perils to our society. This is Lohmeier. He may have lost his job at the command post, but he has earned admiration from the common man.

Matt O’Brien: ProPublica’s “Big Story” Is More Than a Little Wrong 0 (0)

by Matt O’Brien

Radical news outlet ProPublica is currently running a scare piece claiming, “Border agents can now get classified intelligence information. Experts call that dangerous.” According to ProPublica, “…the Trump administration is creating a new center in suburban Virginia that will allow immigration agents to access, for the first time, the sprawling array of information scooped up by America’s intelligence agencies….”

The article, part of the organization’s “Big Story” newsletter, further claims, “Migrants and others denied entry will be unable to see the evidence against them because it is classified.” It also asserts that, “It could also be nearly impossible for those denied entry to challenge faulty information if wrongly accused, they say, since most of it is classified.”

But, there are so many factual errors in ProPublica’s overwrought monument to pointless, fake news hyperbole that it is difficult to know where to begin debunking it.

Immigration officers throughout The United States Department of Homeland Security already have access to classified information. They have, for decades. In Jay v. Boyd, decided in 1956, the Supreme Court explicitly held that, when determining an alien’s admissibility to the United States, the government may rely on “confidential information not disclosed to the alien.”

In fact, over 20 years ago, in 1998, U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS) General Counsel Paul Virtue appeared before Congress to discuss the government’s need to consider classified information in connection with immigration applications in order to protect America’s national security. And that was under the Democrat, left-leaning Clinton administration.

And the Trump administration isn’t setting up any shadowy new intelligence center in the capital city’s suburbs. There are already a number of information-collection-and-sharing facilities all around the Washington, D.C., area. They range from the National Counterterrorism Center, operated by the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, to U.S. Customs and Border Protection’s (CBP) National Targeting Center (whose motto is “Catching smugglers, terrorists and lawbreakers works better through partnership.”). Many other agencies also run information-sharing centers in the area. Their collective purpose is to protect the United States from foreign national security threats, particularly terrorism.

The suburban Virginia facility referenced by ProPublica is called the National Vetting Center (NVC). And it serves one simple purpose that its parent agency, United States Customs and Border Protection (CBP), has loudly and publicly proclaimed:

Over time, the U.S. Government has developed multiple, unconnected processes to bring together threat information already lawfully held by the government about individuals seeking to enter the United States or obtain benefits under our immigration laws.  The NVC is centralizing and improving these processes to more efficiently and effectively inform department and agency vetting.  Relevant, appropriate information will be accessible in a consolidated and timely manner to the departments and agencies leveraging the NVC’s process and technology.

As for those “civil rights concerns” that ProPublica is crowing about: There aren’t any. As the Supreme Court has repeatedly pointed out, requests by foreign nationals for admission to the United States don’t give rise to constitutional civil rights claims, because “the admission of aliens to this country is not a right, but a privilege, which is granted only upon such terms as the United States prescribes” – Ekiu v. United States (1892), Fong Yue Ting v. United States(1893), Knauff v. Shaughnessy (1950), Kliendienst v. Mandel (1972).

Finally, ProPublica’s claim that individuals denied entry to the United States on the basis of classified information will be denied an opportunity to review and contest such information is utterly specious. Foreign nationals can’t even challenge a denial of admission made on the basis of unclassified information. Under existing statutes and case precedent, the Department of State can summarily deny a visa to a foreign national and CBP personnel at the border may deny admission to anyone who fails to establish his/her admissibility – and the law provides absolutely no legal mechanism  for challenging a denial of admission.

In reality, it turns out that this “Big Story” is actually much ado about nothing.
